Pro Tip: Pets in Photographs

PRO TIP: If you’d like Fido in your photos, here’s a couple of extra steps to take to make sure it’s not a scene from Marley & Me.

🐱For an engagement session, please tell your photographer you plan to bring the dog(s). Even bring a cat on a leash if you want! (@walter). I love to capture your pet family photo. Just don’t show up with one unexpectedly, because it’s damn near impossible to hold a jerking leash and a camera at the same time.

🐶 Our pets need another person in charge, like your mom or best man for example. They can bring your pet to the shoot for the first portion, and then take them back home when their 15-minutes of fame is over. I have learned over the years that dragging a dog around for 2 hours is not beneficial to anyone or your pictures. I only need a short amount of time with them.

🐷 On wedding day, if you’re getting ready in a hotel and would like the same quick photo op, simply make the same arrangements with a friend coming to the wedding later who does not need to be ready as early as you.

🐍 If you’d like the photo op during newlywed portraits, have a neighbor not attending the wedding to bring your pet to arrive 30 minutes after ceremony end time, just when family photos should be wrapping up. It’s simply a logistics game, because Fido has his own needs too! Any other helpful strategies when involving your pets in your photos?

Pro Tip: Dress Prep Must Have

PRO TIP: If you have a wedding dress with buttons, you must have this simple little tool…

🧶 A crochet hook.

Yes, this $5.99 piece of aluminum will save your mother’s hands, while trying to get those itty bitty elastic hooks around the 32 tiny dress buttons. They are torture without one!

⏱19 minutes: the time it takes to button without a crochet hook. While you’re freaking out with a scared face that they won’t be able to get it done up.

🥇3 minutes: the time it takes with this miracle of an Amazon buy. And we all laugh and smile while mom cruises with this handy trick.

👰🏻Who here can attest to the stubborn tiny buttons torture?? Help some sisters out!

Pro Tip: Ceremony Backdrops

PRO TIP: Ceremony backdrops keep you in line!

Here’s the scenario. A lot of backyard and outdoor ceremonies are happening this year, which has been awesome. 🥳

But you get all the chairs set up, if there are even any, and your officiant walks up about 3 feet from the center aisle. 😬 If there even is an aisle marked. That causes your groom-to-be to not know where the hell to stand. And now our ceremony photos are all off center, like woah. Solution! Have a ceremony backdrop. It can be as simple as a bare arc. Or as intricate to carry a wedding theme over as you’d like. And actually a lot of venues have them on hand!

Pro Tip: Backyard Tent Power

Pro Tip: Backyard Tent Power ⚡️

Many 2020 clients are opting to have a minimony reception in their own backyard, rather than be indoors at their original venue with all of the unknowns. And for that reason, let’s talk powering your backyard reception tent.

You need juice. No, not Sunny D. I’m talking electricity. To be able to power the music equipment, caterer requirements, lighting, fans, more lighting, and mics, you’ll need way more than just an extension cord from the garage. 🙅🏼‍♀️

Talk to your vendors about each of their power needs to add some amps up. I’ve seen some homeowners rent generators, and some even beef up their home breaker box to be able to handle the extra load.

The last thing you want is a blackout mid-Michael Jackson Thriller. And I’ve seen that happen twice. 🕺🏻
